Shimano vs Abu Garcia vs Ugly Stik vs Mitchell fishing rods?
whats the best quality brand. i am looking at $30 to $50 range. walmart

What type of fishing will you be doing? That will usually designate what rod design.
From what I’ve seen, Walmart typically carries Abu Garcia’s “Conolon’s”, and a variety of Ugly Stiks. The Walmarts in my area don’t carry any Shimano or Mitchell rods.
Anyway, if you need a rod with great durability but very little “sensitivity” go with an Ugly Stik. Ugly’s are a “graphite composite” rod with (basically) a fiberglass tip. They don’t transmit subtle strikes very well.
The Conolon rods (Abu Garcia) I’ve seen are usually two-piece rods. You would want to stay away from two-piece rods unless you NEED a rod that breaks down. Are all two piece rods bad? NO! But, “cheap” two-piece rods tend to have issues. If you can find a one-piece Conolon- they aren’t “bad” rods.
If you can find an old Shimano Convergence I’d suggest you get that. Shimano makes a quality product.
Unfortunately, Mitchell has long been relegated to “sub-par”. A shame really. I started on a Mitchell spinning reel………
Think about calling or visiting your local Sporting Goods store OR Mom & Pop bait & tackle shop. Sometimes those stores have great sales where you can get a better quality rod for a fair price. Besides, it’s always a good idea to shop any place other than Walmart, for a variety of reasons.
